The englstuds listserv
A listserv is essentially an automated mailing list through which you
can easily communicate with others who have signed on to the listserv.
I have created the englstuds listserv to facilitate communications
with & between the students enrolled in sections 19, 35, 42 & 43
of English 100.
Joining the listserv is simple:
-
Get an email account
-
Send an email message to 'listserv@listserv.arizona.edu' (without the quotation
marks) with the message 'subscribe englstuds firstname lastname' where
firstname is your first name and lastname is your last name. For
example, I joined the listserv with the message 'subscribe englstuds Paul
Burkhardt' (without the quotation marks, of course).
-
You should receive confirmation of your listmembership shortly along with
some instructions on how to use listservs. Please read the instructions!
-
If you are having trouble telneting & sending email w/ pine,
Please keep in mind that there are something like 80 students on this listserv.
It is a valuable resource for sharing ideas between all the sections of
English 100 that I teach. On the other hand, a great deal of message
may be generated.
To send a message to the listserv:
-
Send a message to 'englstuds@listserv.arizona.edu'
-
Type whatever message you wish.
-
This message will be distributed to all students who have joined the englstuds
listserv.
-
note: to send messages to the listserv use the 'englstuds@listserv...'
address, but to send commands to the listserv (e.g., to subscribe, change
options, etc.) use the 'listserv@listserv....' address.
If you find yourself receiving too many messages on this listserv, consider
subscribing in "digest mode". In digest mode, you will only receive
one message per day with a summary of all the postings.
To change to digest mode:
-
Send an email message to 'listserv@listserv.arizona.edu'
-
The text of the message should read 'set englstuds digest'
-
To change back to the individual message mode send the command 'set englstuds
nodigest'.
